PortMan

PortMan : My Portfolio Manager

We aim at building a portfolio management system similar to the project proposed in http://swiki.cs.uiuc.edu/cs598rej/330 . The software would keep track of multiple portfolios of a user - Each portfolio would indicate the user's holdings (number of stocks held, the cost basis, the current price of the stock, the day's gain and the overall gain). The user would be able to manually specify transactions - such as stocks bought and sold in the day.

The user would also have a watchlist of hot stocks and stocks that have had a drastic change in price, in a day. This way, the user can have customized alerts and updates for the stocks he is interested in. These updates would also take into consideration the user's holdings, in deciding which alerts would be more significant to the user. We also aim at having a list of the top 5 stocks that have risen or fallen in a day.

Desired Features:

Real-time quotes:
Interface with NASDAQ/Google Finance to retrieve real-time quotes for stocks.

Watch list / Alerting System
As described above.

Time travel (inspired from Spring 07 proposal)
Ability of users to go back in time and change/ undo transactions in their portfolios, and watch what happens as time is fast-forwarded (if time permits)
