hw-1-19

In class, we should have started and finished some or all of the following, each found by clicking on "Find" in the navigation bar of squeak, then clicking on the triangle next to Squeakland-Projects, then clicking on "eToys" (not the triangle next to it).
  • Painting Tutorial
  • Handles Tutorial
  • NewCar Tutorial
  • Extension of new car tutorial, in which the car stays on the road by itself.
  • Extension in which a score of driving dexterity is incorporated.

In addition, we began to explore other aspects of Squeak (by which I henceforth mean "Etoys", and will not make the distinction again except where it is needed.) Here is a checklist of things you should have done by Wed Jan 26.
  1. Try out all menus available from the viewer panes of an object. Note the difference between options available for objects like ellipses that are dragged from supplies, and graphical objects (sketches) that you create.
  2. Try out all objects in the Supplies bin
  3. Explore and learn about all buttons on the Navigation bar.
  4. Explore the menu available from the red menu icon in the halo of any object.
  5. Find and explore the desktop menu by clcking on the red menu icon for the main page, and then selecting "desktop menu".
  6. Drag out an object catalog, and start learning about many of the special objects that you can use in projects.
  7. Read about variables.
  8. Read about control.
  9. See if you can create a working traffic light. Here is a traffic-light walk-through.
  10. Read miscellaneous Squeak Tricks.
  11. Explore online web projects to see how people do various things.
Here are a few things to look at:
  • Some stuff I put together specifically for you to glance though is here.
  • Squeakfest 2004 Projects contains projects demonstrated by various speakers at squeakfest 2004. The four at the bottom, by Scott Wallace, shows some advanced techniques. All the others were projects created by kids of various ages and discussed by teachers at the workshop.

Finally, for Wed Jan 26, bring in a fun squeak project that you're proud to show off.
