Tutorials

Squeakland Tutorials are the best place to start. Begin with the paint tutorial. Then the handles. Then the car.

Squeakland Project Guides would be a good second step. These are more involved projects intended to be walked through by kids.

SqueakFest 2004 Projects should be looked at. The bottom section which is linked to contains three nice projects fron squeak central's Scott Wallace. Look at these first. In particular, "countries" gives a nice animation of countries stuck in a circular chain reaction of bumping eachother. It uses the "obtrudes" test, and also implements a circular linked list via pointer of objects to others. "Plankton" is a fairly involved aquarium simulation, and gives nice programming style. "Multi Instance Simulation" gives effective use of siblings.

http://www.dmu.com/squeak is a very nicely presented collection of step-by-step lessons. However, much of it uses the underlying smalltalk, which we're specifically avoiding. There are other issues that pedagogically make it a mismatch for our goals. But it is a great example of the level of detail we should aim for. Beginning programmers might find this excellent. At some point we should links to within the pages to pick out the most appropriate stuff. (One of these is the tutorial on animation using the holder).

Please add links and descriptions to this list.
